Ingredients

For the Yeast Starter

  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Yeast (amount not specified in the original recipe)

For the Dough

  • 150 g unsalted butter (about 10½ tbsp)
  • 100 g granulated sugar (½ cup)
  • Vanilla extract, to taste
  • 100 ml milk (about ⅓ cup + 1 tbsp)
  • 1 large egg
  • 500 g all-purpose flour (approximately 4 cups)
  • Prepared yeast starter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast starter.
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, flour, and yeast. Mix well and let stand until the mixture becomes foamy and active.
  2. Mix the dough ingredients.
In a large bowl, combine the butter, sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and egg. Mix until well combined.
  3. Add the flour and yeast starter.
Stir in 100 g of flour, then add the prepared yeast starter and mix well. Gradually incorporate the remaining flour until a dough begins to form.
  4. Knead the dough.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and soft. Add a little flour if needed, keeping the dough tender and workable.
  5. Let the dough rise.
Cover the dough and let it rise until it increases in volume.
  6. Shape the medialunas.
Gently press down the dough to release the air. Roll it out and cut it into triangles. Starting at the wide end, roll each triangle toward the tip to create a crescent shape.
  7. Bake until golden.
Arrange the medialunas on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated KUCHT oven until golden brown. The original recipe does not specify a baking temperature or time, so use a tested setting appropriate for your dough and oven.

KUCHT Tip

For more even baking, leave space between the medialunas on the baking sheet and let them rise again after shaping until slightly puffy before placing them in the oven.
